Breaking - Royals Option Alex Gordon To Omaha

From the excellent Bob Dutton via Twitter:

#Royals option 3B Alex Gordon to Omaha; activate RHP Kyle Farnsworth.

It's been slow going for Gordon since returning from his hip injury.  In 22 games covering 84 plate appearances, he's hitting .227/.310/.333.  The last couple of weeks, he began striking the ball with more authority, but a current 0-13 skid hasn't helped.

This was supposed to be an important year in Gordon's development.  Now he's just a poster boy for everything that has gone horribly, horribly wrong.

I get moving him down - but for FARNSWORTH?!?!

What does Colon have to do to get sent down? Come out drunk? Not wear pants on the mound?

Certainly a strange move in my opinion. There's plenty of speculation that this was done to screw with Gordon's major league service time. We probably need to see when he returns to figure that one out.

Gordon does have a whopping 6% line drive percentage this year....and it's dropped 3% since coming of the DL.

Gordon has been terrible. That is the sole reason he was sent down.

He should not have been up for more than half a season at most in 07. Last season it was revealed that they knew in spring 06 that his swing would need to be completely re-worked, but instead of doing so in the minors, they let him destroy AA pitching that season and didn't bother making a single adjustment. So then when he wasn't ready in spring 07, they put him on the opening day roster (specifically avoiding the standard service time manipulation that competent organizations must do) and proceeded to try and re-work his swing the MLB level. All this while he needed significant time to work on his still-atrocious defense at 3B.

He needs to moved to the OF or 1B where he could have positive defensive value, and someone needs to tell him that no matter how big his muscles get, he will never hit 80 HRs at the K.

He has always been a little dubious of the team's management, and who can blame him. At this point they probably need to go get Westmoreland and change from the Red Sox for him.

Good Decision (taking Farnsworth out of the equasion),it would have been easy to go for the safe option of sending Mitch Maier down, kudos to Moore for giving his young players encouragement!
